The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method for acquiring and producing kidney progenitor cells having a high degree of purity from a cell population obtained by inducing differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into kidney progenitor cells by identifying a kidney progenitor–specific cell surface antigen marker. A method for preparing kidney progenitor cells obtained by inducing differentiation of pluripotent stem cells, which includes: (i) a step for cultivating pluripotent stem cells under conditions that induce differentiation into kidney progenitor cells； and (ii) a step for sorting a cell population from the cells obtained in step (i) by using at least one cell surface marker selected from the group consisting of CD9(-), CD55(-), CD106(+), CD140a(+), CD140b(+), CD165(+), CD271(+), and CD326(-).
