PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting mechanism of an electronic endoscope for generating an image easier to view by controlling the quantity of illuminating light.SOLUTION: This lighting mechanism is provided for the electronic endoscope including a video processor having a light source part and an electronic endoscope adapted to transmit illuminating light from the light source part through an operating part to the tip of an insert part, and emit the same by an optical fiber bundle. The light source part has at least two light sources, and the illuminating light emitted from the light sources are transmitted to the tip of the insert part through different optical fiber bundles. The tip body of the insert part is provided with an illuminating optical system for a linear beam, which emits substantially parallel rays to an observing object and an optical member for a wide beam having end face, which emits diverging rays to the observing object. The respective tips of the optical fiber bundles are disposed at the tip body to transmit the illuminating light to the illuminating optical system or the optical member.
