An animal deterrent apparatus comprising an elongate core and a plurality of resiliently deformable bristles, wherein the bristles extend radially outwards from the core through an angle of from 90° to 180° and the bristles are arranged along the longitudinal axis of the core in two or more groups and each group is spaced from a neighbouring group to define a gap between the adjacent groups of bristles, wherein each gap portion of the core contains no bristles.
