A deterrent apparatus arranged to deter badgers or another animals from entering a predetermined territory. The apparatus comprises a housing 1 arranged to conceal the deterrent apparatus and includes a container 20 comprising a scent mimic 22. The container is arranged to provide controlled release of the scent mimic. The scent mimic is a synthetic organic chemical as would be produced by a party to deter such as an animal like a fox, badger, bear or otter. The apparatus may further include a sound deterrent portion, a motion detection device, camouflage, a power source, directional means, a light source and a camera. The sound deterrent portion may be placed at a separate location to the scent releasing portion. The apparatus is designed to control the spread of Bovine Tuberculosis (bTB).
