The invention relates to a method for fumigating agricultural land which comprises the release of cyanogen into the ground, wherein the cyanogen is released at a depth from 10 cm to 50 cm below the ground surface, and cyanogen is present in gaseous form under the release conditions, and wherein the cyanogen is dissolved in water before said release and is released into the ground as an aqueous cyanogen solution.
