PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stabilizing agent for hair dyes, enabling stable storage of a readily oxidizable compound in a hair dye, especially an intermediate of an oxidizing dye or a coupler, and effective for remarkably improving the ill odor problem, and provide a stabilizing agent for hair dyes giving reduced damage on the hair and little stimulation to the skin and free from adverse effect on the dyeing power of the hair dye.SOLUTION: The active component constituting the stabilizing agent for hair dyes is a mercapto-hydrocarbon compound and/or a thiol alcohol compound free from functional group reactive with dye intermediates and couplers.
