PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire a tree form tubular structure with a high bifurcation level.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus comprises a storage part, a cross section image generating part, an area extracting part, and a tubular structure extraction part. The storage part stores a volume image targeting a three-dimensional area of an analyte. The cross section image generating part generates a plurality of cross section images respectively corresponding to a plurality of cross sections substantially orthogonal to a prescribed reference axis from the volume image. The area extraction part extracts an area for an object portion from the plurality of cross section images.
