593490 Disclosed is a method for determining the volume of a bodily structure. The method includes acquiring at least two ultrasound images, applying a first filter to each of the at least two images to reduce display artefacts due to random noise to a greater extent than speckle artefacts and estimating the location of the perimeter of a structure of interest as viewed in cross section in each filtered ultrasound image. The cross sectional area of such structure as so viewed is then calculated and the perimeter and area information from the at least two filtered images are combined to calculate the volume of the structure.
