The intention of the invention is to provide a wound dressing which provides for effective wound bed preparation by decreasing excessive wound exudate, decreasing tissue bacterial levels and/or removing deleterious chemical mediators. The invention provides a wound dressing, for absorbing exudate from a wound on which the wound dressing is placed, which includes a porous highly absorptive fiber dressing, comprising two layers of a first absorbent material in the form of a non-woven fabric, and a layer of second absorbent material in the form of a woven mesh fabric sandwiched therebetween； and a negative surface charge on the first absorbent material, wherein the negative surface charge is created through friction.
