The present invention relates to process for identifying a compound whichinduces the mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT) in proliferatingcells, wherein said process comprises contacting a cell or cell extract with acompound, determining whether the compound binds to adenine nucleotidetranslocator (ANT), and determining whether the compound selectively inducesthe MPT in proliferating cells.
