The method involves engaging a wedge-shaped arrangement of a storage chamber (14) during initiating a storage phase by one-sided height adjustment of a lower floor conveyor (15) and an upper ceiling conveyor (16) e.g. bar belt conveyor, where the wedge-shaped arrangement is tapered in a direction of an inlet region (20) of a semi-variable bale press chamber (3). The press chamber is filled with harvested crops by cutting- and/or conveying device (11), where the wedge-shaped arrangement compresses the crops. The wedge-shaped arrangement is lifted during filling the storage chamber.
