The invention refers to a compacting arrangement comprising a pressing chamber, an inlet, a compacting means, an outlet, and a form fixing means. The invention further refers to a compacting method using such a compacting arrangement. The pressing chamber is surrounded by a pressing chamber casing comprising a polygonal casing segment. Loose material is compressed in the pressing chamber. A form fixing unit is placed around the compressed loose material. A polygonal bale (B) is created in the polygonal casing segment and is ejected through the outlet. The bale (B) has n edges (23.1, 23.2,...) wherein n is at least 5. A cross-sectional face of this bale (B) has the shape of a polygon with n corners and n edges between these n corners.
