The present invention provides a barrier assembly (1) for determining the permeability of one or more chemicals to a biological barrier. The barrier assembly (1) of the present invention comprises a donor compartment (2) for adding a chemical substance or a composition comprising a chemical substance, and an acceptor compartment (3) for receiving a chemical substance upon permeation of the barrier (4). A barrier (4) separating the donor compartment (2) and the acceptor compartment (3). The barrier (4) includes a polymer support (5), a phospholipid layer (6) that adheres to the surface of the polymer support (5), and a coating layer provided on top of the phospholipid layer (6).
