The practice of peripheral venipuncture requires specific skills related to characteristic limitations of the structures that make up human skin, such as the caliber of veins, fat layers, and the patient's clinical condition. Although the medical imaging device market provides infrared light-spectrum photography-based vein viewers, characterized by greater penetration into organic structures, the high cost of such an apparatus is an impediment to the spread of this technology. The invention presented herein is a vein viewer system defined by a sampling device specifically designed to obtain vein images from their interaction with short infrared wavelengths. It is integrable with conventional mobile devices via cable connection and an auxiliary application that processes and displays subcutaneous vein images on the smartphone or tablet screen in real time. The sampler lighting system provides two wavelengths, 760nm and 850nm, alternately activated by selector switch and attenuated by a potentiometer.
