A water absorbent polymer composition according to the present invention comprises anti-bacterial microparticles comprising inorganic microparticles having a hydrophobic anti-bacterial agent attached onto the surfaces thereof and a water absorbent polymer, wherein the anti-bacterial microparticles are attached onto the surface of the water absorbent polymer. It is preferred that a portion of the surface of the water absorbent polymer is exposed. The hydrophobic anti-bacterial agent is preferably a substance represented by formula (I), benzalkonium cetyl phosphate, triclosan or zinc pyrithione. The inorganic microparticles are preferably fumed silica particles.
