A water-absorbing resin composition which comprises a water-absorbing resin and a hydrophobic bitter emetic such as brucine or sucrose octaacetate. When an infant put the water-absorbing resin composition into the mouth by mistake, the composition tastes bitter and can be easily spat out due to the emetic effect to thereby prevent eating or drinking by mistake. When the water-absorbing resin composition is in contact with a liquid such as a body fluid and absorbs moisture, the bitter emetic, which has hydrophobic nature, hardly flows out therefrom. Thus, the separation of the bitter emetic from the water-absorbing resin can be prevented and the desired effect can be sustained.
