The medical observation device is configured such that, in a plane that passes through the first and second axes, the cross section of each of the microscope part, the first and second joint parts, and the first and second arm parts is included within a circle that has the focus position of the microscope part as the center thereof and that passes through an end point of the first joint part which is at the greatest distance from the focus position.
