PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a rotation of a grasping part makes it difficult to specify a direction of a scanning surface formed from a tip of an ultrasonic probe for an inside of a body cavity.

SOLUTION: An oscillator array 20a is arranged at the tip of an insertion part of the ultrasonic probe 10, and can rock toward both sides of a shaft of the insertion part by a motor 36. The rocking angle &eta is detected based on an output signal S&eta of a rotation-angle detector provided in the motor 36. The ultrasonic probe 10 is provided with a posture sensor 60 for detecting a posture of the grasping part, and thus, based on the output signal S&phiv, the rotation angle &phiv of the grasping part 14 around the shaft of the insertion part can be detected. Based on information on these rocking angle &eta and rotation angle &phiv, the direction of the electronic scanning surface is detected. Information on the detected direction of the electronic scanning surface is displayed on a display device 88 of an ultrasonic diagnostic device body.
