An intravascular blood pump (1) comprises a pump section (2) having a proximal portion (5) with a blood flow inlet (3) and a distal portion (6) with a blood flow outlet (4) and an impeller for causing blood to flow into the blood flow inlet (3) and towards the blood flow outlet (4). The blood pump (1) further comprises at least one filter (10) connected to the proximal portion (5) of the pump section (2) and arranged with respect to the blood flow inlet (3) so as to filter the blood before it enters the blood flow inlet (3). The filter (10) may comprise an expandable mesh structure made of a shape-memory material.
