An orthopaedic alignment guide component is provided for preparing a patients bone socket, such as the glenoid of the patients scapula, to receive a prosthetic glenoid component. The orthopaedic alignment guide component includes a guide body for inserting a guide pin into the patients scapula and an inferior referencing arm for referencing an inferior surface of the patients scapula.
