Systems and methods are provided herein for detaching a therapeutic device, such as an embolic coil, from a delivery tube at a target site within a patient's body. The system includes a bead disposed against the distal end of the therapeutic device, which holds the therapeutic device in a first compression configuration to a delivery tube through a coupling union comprising a series of connectors. The series of connectors may include a stretch resistant member through which beads are attached to the anchors inside the therapeutic device. The anchor can then be placed against a thermally responsive element comprised of a polymeric material that is configured to melt or otherwise change shape to release the anchor and therewith also to release the therapeutic element.
