PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disposable wearing article capable of being appropriately closely fitted to the waist of a wearer.SOLUTION: A pair of side panels 70 are attached to both side edges 16 in a rear waist region 12 of a chassis 10 constituting the diaper 1. Each side panel 70 includes a first sheet 71 a second sheet 72 a side panel elastic body 73 attached between the sheets a connection sheet 74 which joints the first and second sheets 71 and 72 to the chassis 10 and a tab sheet 76 joined to the first sheet 71. A hook element 77 is fixed to a body side of the tab sheet 76. The side panel elastic body 73 is attached between the first and second sheets 71 and 72 to form an extension/contraction region 78. Inner and outer non-extension/contraction regions 79a and 79b which are not elastically extended or contracted are formed on both outer sides in the lateral direction X of the extension/contraction region 78. The extension/contraction region 78 has such an extension rate that the dimensions B2 of the extension/contraction region 78 when the region 78 is extended to the maximum is about 10-40 times of the dimensions B1 when the region 78 is contracted.
