The device (1) has an egg counting module (6), and a transfer unit (8) for transferring eggs from an incubation plate (4) in direction of the egg counting module. The eggs are transferred from the egg counting module in direction of a hatching basket (5). The egg counting module includes a valve for passing a number of eggs into the hatching basket at a period of time between steps for transferring of the eggs from the tray in the direction of the hatching basket. An independent claim is also included for a method for candling and transferring incubated eggs from an incubation tray in direction of a hatching basket.
