An implantable orthopedic device, comprising: an implant having a first surface in contact with the prosthesis of a patient’s joint, the implant further comprising a plurality of protrusions that are connected to the first surface and rise above the first surface, and a plurality of pores distributed within the first surface. The device according to claim 1, wherein said protrusions are rounded. The device according to claim 1, in which these protrusions rise above the first surface to a height of from about 50 microns to about 2000 microns. The device according to claim 3, wherein said height is from about 100 microns to about 1100 microns.
