An earmark material for use in culturing coral includes an embedding end, an earmarking end and at least one earmark material section. The embedding end is embedded in a live coral whose tissues can grow on the embedding end. The earmarking end is extended outward from the live coral so as to identify the live coral from others. In an embodiment, the earmark material section extends through an entire section of the earmark material such that the entire section of the earmark material can be used to earmark and identify the live coral.
