PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a walking type tiller miniaturized and reduced in weight and cost compared with a conventional one.SOLUTION: A walking type tiller 1 adopts a hypoid gear set comprising a hypoid pinion 15 and a hypoid gear 21 with which the hypoid pinion 15 is meshed, as a transmission mechanism 8 for torque from an engine 6 to a transmission 7. The engine 6 is disposed in a longitudinally installed state so that its engine rotation output shaft 12 extends horizontally to the rear of the tiller. The hypoid pinion 15 is fixed to the tip part of the engine rotation output shaft 12, and the hypoid gear 21 is coaxially disposed at a rotation input shaft 18 in the transmission 7.
