An apparatus (10) for shredding a material, in particular plant material, especially grassy material, comprises a frame (12) that defines a compartment (19) for housing a shredding rotor (20) mounted with its axis of rotation substantially transversal, and having at least one opening (24, 26) for the passage of the material and extending longitudinally of the apparatus.
