PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus capable of sufficiently reducing a leakage magnetic field while retaining the axial length of the whole magnetic resonance imaging apparatus short.
SOLUTION: This magnetic resonance imaging apparatus is provided with: a static magnetic field coil stored in a cylindrical vacuum vessel 7, and forming a uniform static magnetic field 8 in an imaging space 9 closer to a central axis side than an inner cylinder wall 7a in the vacuum vessel 7 a main coil 3 m forming a gradient magnetic field a gradient magnetic field coil 3 suppressing the leakage magnetic field of the main coil 3 m and having a cylindrical shield coil 3s provided along the inner cylinder wall 7a. The shield coil 3s has curved coils 12a and 12b disposed in regions halved in the circumferential direction, respectively, and lead wires 13ay and 13by laid around a clearance 10 between the inner cylinder wall 7a and the curved coils 12a and 12b to connect the curved coils 12a and 12b to each other.
