A medical laser, comprising: (a) a laser source to supply an output of the laser, wherein said laser source receives input from a laser power supply; and (b) an electronic shutter circuit for monitoring and controlling the safety of said laser output, wherein said electronic shutter circuit comprises: (i) a safety monitor circuit: (ii) a first current sensor and a second sensor of current, wherein said first current sensor and said second current sensor are both arranged, but independently, to provide input to said safety monitor circuit, and wherein said second security sensor is arranged to provide input to said laser power supply; wherein the first current sensor and the second current sensor are each arranged to monitor a laser current provided by said laser power supply; in which means are provided for using the first current sensor to control the laser current at a controlled level; and wherein means are provided for monitoring the second current sensor to ensure if the laser current is below a threshold current; and (iii) a first photo detector and a second photo detector, wherein said first photo detector and said second photo detector are both arranged, but independently to provide input to said security monitor circuit, in which the first photo detector and the second photo detector are arranged to monitor a laser emission power; wherein the first photo detector is arranged to be used in a closed circuit iteration to adjust the laser power supply output, such that a desired level of laser emission is reached; and in which means are provided to compare the output of the second photo detector with that of the first photo detector to ensure that they are consistent.Un láser médico, que comprende: (a) una fuente de láser para suministrar una salida del láser, en la que dicha fuente de láser recibe entrada desde un suministro de potencia del láser; y (b) un circuito obturador electrónico para supervisar y controlar la seguridad de dicha salida del láser, en el
