A dental x-ray system comprising:- a first substantially vertical column- a second substantially vertical column supporting a dental x-ray device, the second column being movable with respect to the first column- a motor connected to the second column, the motor having a threaded shaft extending toward the first column- a threaded sleeve in threaded engagement with the shaft, the threaded sleeve extending away from the second column andwherein the motor controllably moving the second column with respect to the first column by rotating the shaft with respect to the sleeve.
