The invention relates to device for a wheel chair comprising a seat (2), a backrest (1) which can be pivoted around a pivot axis and assume several positions from a substantially horizontal position to a substantially vertical position, and a linkage (3), articulately connecting the backrest to the seat. The device is characterized in that the linkage comprises a link arm (21), which is pivotally fitted to the seat via a first pivot point (A) and to the backrest via a second pivot point (B), and a telescopic device (24), which is fixedly fitted to the backrest and pivotally fitted to the seat via a third pivot point (C), wherein the link arm and the telescopic device are so disposed that, when the backrest is pivoted around its pivot axis between the different positions, the pivot axis of the backrest is moved along an elliptic path. The invention also relates to a wheel chair comprising such a device.Linvention concerne un dispositif, pour un fauteuil roulant, qui comporte un siège (2), un dossier (1) qui peut pivoter autour dun axe de pivot et adopter plusieurs positions allant dune position sensiblement horizontale à une position sensiblement verticale, et une liaison (3), reliant de manière articulée le dossier au siège. Le dispositif est caractérisé en ce que la liaison comporte un bras de liaison (21), qui est fixé de manière pivotante au siège par lintermédiaire dun premier point de pivot (A) et au dossier par lintermédiaire dun deuxième point de pivot (B), et un dispositif télescopique (24), qui est fixé de manière fixe au dossier et de manière pivotante au siège par lintermédiaire dun troisième point de pivot (C), le bras de liaison et le dispositif télescopique étant disposés dune manière telle que, lorsque le dossier pivote autour de son axe de pivot entre les différentes positions, laxe de pivot du dossier suit un trajet elliptique.
