PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove afterimage edge while suppressing noise deterioration by an afterimage removing process.

SOLUTION: An afterimage AP included in a radiation image P is detected. An afterimage smoothing image SP obtained by smoothing the detected afterimage AP is generated. An afterimage edge region EP indicating an edge region of the afterimage AP is extracted. Thereafter, the afterimage smoothing image SP and the afterimage AP are weighted and added so that the weight (1-&alpha) to the afterimage smoothing image SP increases from the edge region to a non-edge region based on the afterimage edge region EP to generate afterimage correction data CP, and the generated afterimage correction data CP is removed from the radiation image P.
