A dry powder inhaler comprises a first generally planar spiral travel path inan inhalerbody, wherein the first spiral travel path has a plurality of adjacentcurvilinear channelsforming lanes with respective laterally spaced apart upstanding sidewalls,including an innerlane and an outer lane； and a plurality of discrete microcartridges withsubstantially rigidbodies disposed in the first travel path, the microcartridges each having abottom, a top andan outer wall extending therebetween enclosing a sealed cavity, each cavitycomprising a pre-meteredamount of dry powder, the microcartridges being configured to slidably advancealong the first travel path toward an inhalation chamber that merges into aninhalation outputport, wherein, in operation, at least one microcartridge is held in theinhalation chamber torelease the dry powder therein during inhalation, wherein the microcartridgesare oriented inthe channels so that their outer walls reside proximate respective laterallyspaced apartchannel sidewalls and the bottom faces a floor of the channel, and whereinouter walls ofneighboring microcartridge bodies are in abutting contact as they slidablyadvance to theinhalation chamber.
