PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize a sound speed stipulating a reception delay data set (reception condition) in an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus.
SOLUTION: In a test operation mode, the sound speed to be the base of computing a delay data set is changed in trial. Thus, a plurality of profiles corresponding to a plurality of reference areas are acquired. Each profile indicates the change of the evaluation value of a phasing addition result to the change of the speed. The evaluation value is equivalent to the total sum of signals after phasing addition inside the reference area for instance. One or two or more appropriate profiles are determined from the plurality of profiles, and the optimum sound speed is computed on the basis of them. The optimum sound speed is utilized as a parameter for calculating the delay data set in normal ultrasonic diagnosing.
