PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sterilization and inactivation device capable of efficiently sterilizing/inactivating bacteria/viruses in air.
SOLUTION: The device includes an opposed electrode 14 provided with plural openings 15 and a needle-like electrode 18, which is insulated from the opposed electrode 14, whose end is positioned around a center part of the openings 15. The opposed electrode 14 is set for a ground voltage, and a negative high voltage is applied on the needle-like electrode 18. As a result, circle plasma is generated around the openings 15, a space in the openings 15 could be at a high excitation density, and activated species are generated in the space of the openings 15. Air induced from an air intake 11b is made to pass through the openings 15 to allow the bacteria and viruses in the air to contact with the activated species so as to sterilize the bacteria and inactivate the viruses.
