A nucleic acid molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding a functional α-galactosidase A protein is described, wherein the nucleotide sequence has at least 85% identity to the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1. Also described are vectors, host cells, or transgenic animals comprising nucleic acid molecules, and pharmaceutical compositions comprising nucleic acid molecules or vectors. Further described is the use of nucleic acid molecules in methods of treating Fabry disease.
