A scleral prosthesis (100) includes a prosthesis body (102, 200, 300) havingfirst and second side surfaces (210-212)and a cavity (114, 214, 314) extending through the prosthesis body from thefirst side surface to the second side surface. The scleralprosthesis also includes a crossbar (116, 400) configured to be inserted intothe cavity, where the crossbar is wider than the prosthesisbody. The cavity could define a narrower central opening and wider endopenings, and the crossbar could have a narrower centralportion (402) and wider end portions (404). Also, the prosthesis body couldinclude multiple cavities, and the scleral prosthesis couldinclude multiple crossbars configured to be inserted into the multiplecavities. Each of the cavities could be located proximate to anend (104-106, 202-204, 302-304) of the prosthesis body. The crossbar could besubstantially straight with a cylindrical cross section.
