A scleral prosthesis (100) includes a prosthesis body (102, 200, 300) havingfirst and second side surfaces (210-212) and a cavity (114, 214, 314) extendingthrough the prosthesis body from the first side surface to the second side surface.The scleral prosthesis also includes a crossbar (116, 400) configured to be insertedinto the cavity, where the crossbar is wider than the prosthesis body. The cavitycould define a narrower central opening and wider end openings, and the crossbarcould have a narrower central portion (402) and wider end portions (404). Also,the prosthesis body could include multiple cavities, and the scleral prosthesiscould include multiple crossbars configured to be inserted into the multiplecavities. Each of the cavities could be located proximate to an end (104-106,202-204, 302-304) of the prosthesis body. The crossbar could be substantiallystraight with a cylindrical cross section.
