An object of this invention is to provide simply the composition which can enhance dehydrogenase activity. The composition of the present invention is characterized by enhancing the activity of a dehydrogenase containing an extract derived from mate tea as an active ingredient. In a preferred embodiment of the composition for enhancing the activity of the dehydrogenase of the present invention, the dehydrogenase is an alcohol dehydrogenase. The composition for liver diseases of the present invention is characterized by using an extract derived from mate tea as an active ingredient.
