PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the possibility of lesion diagnosing in endoscopy.
SOLUTION: The endoscope system 2 is capable of selecting a normal illumination light irradiation mode of radiating normal illumination light (white light), a special illumination light irradiation mode of radiating the special illumination light of a wavelength region different from that of the normal illumination light, and a simultaneous observation mode of switching the normal and special illumination light from each other at each cycle of the shifting operation of the incidence end of an image guide 31 and irradiating it. In order to achieve the switching of the respective modes, a light source device 12 includes a blue laser light source 70, a near ultraviolet laser light source 71, a polarization beam splitter 74, a CPU 76, or the like. Between a light guide 27 and an illumination window 28, a wavelength conversion member 29 for generating excitation light by irradiation light from the respective light sources 70 and 71 is disposed. In the simultaneous observation mode, normal and special images obtained respectively by the image light of the normal and special illumination light are simultaneously displayed on a monitor 21.
