A needle protection device comprises a hub 24 having a needle carrier 12 attached thereto, a needle shroud 30 and a sleeve 26 having one or more longitudinally extending bodies 26, 26. The bodies 26, 26 being connected at their first end 26a to the needle shroud 30 by means of a first hinge 40, and at their second end 26b proximal to a first end 24a of the hub 24 by means of a second hinge 42. In use the sleeve 26 can be moved between a first position (RO, Fig 3), in which the sleeves mid portion 26e is radially outward of the hub 24 and the shroud 30 does not cover the end of the needle, and a second position, RI, in which the mid portion 26e is radially inward of the first position and the shroud 30 contains the end of the needle within an aperture 32 provided therein. A locking arrangement for locking the sleeve in the sheathed position is also taught and preferably comprises a pair of inter-engaging hooks (50, Fig 10). The hooks preferably prevent uncoupling once latched.
