Initial setup of a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation device (100) is to be accomplished so that a contact pad (102) of the device makes the correct contact with the chest before the device starts giving chest compressions to the patient. Thereby situations where the contact pad is not in initial contact with the chest or situations where the contact pad initially compresses the chest too much are avoided. The position of the contact pad is measured during initial setup, and when contact between the chest and the contact pad is established, the actual position of the contact pad is measured and set as an initial position. Then a positioning range is set relative to the initial position. Therefore, the CPR device is provided with a positioning aid (131) which informs the rescuer when the contact pad is within the positioning range or when the contact pad is outside the initial positioning range.La colocación inicial de un dispositivo de resucitación cardiopulmonar (100) debe realizarse de tal manera que una almohadilla de contacto (102) del dispositivo haga el contacto correcto con el tórax antes de que el dispositivo comience las compresiones torácicas al paciente. De esta manera se evitan situaciones en donde la almohadilla de contacto no está en contacto inicial con el tórax o situaciones en donde la almohadilla de contacto comprime inicialmente mucho el tórax. La posición de la almohadilla de contacto se mide durante la colocación inicial, y cuando se establece el contacto entre el tórax y la almohadilla de contacto, se mide la posición real de la almohadilla de contacto y se establece como la posición inicial. Después se establece un intervalo de posicionamiento en relación con la posición inicial. Por lo tanto, el dispositivo de CPR está provisto con un asistente de posicionamiento (131) que informa al rescatista el momento en el que la almohadilla de contacto está dentro del intervalo de posicionamiento o cuando la almohadilla de contacto está fuera del intervalo
