This invention relates to anterior chamber maintainer device (20, 200) for use in eye surgery, for example, cataract surgery where it is necessary to maintain the pressure of the anterior chamber of the eye. In this regard, the device (20, 200) comprises a flexible body (22, 222) defining a distal end portion (22.1, 222.1) having an opening, a proximal end portion (22.2, 222.2) having an opening, and a passage extending therebetween. The body (22, 222) is deformable between a collapsed state is which the passage is substantially closed, and an open state in which the passage is substantially open for insertion and removal of instruments therethrough, in use.
