PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively and safely provide a porous material coated or impregnated with a water-soluble or water-dispersible polysaccharide material having a uniform chemical structure with good workability, and a biocompatible material consisting of a porous material coated or impregnated with the water-soluble or water-dispersible polysaccharide material having the uniform chemical structure.
SOLUTION: This invention provides a porous material coated or impregnated with an oxidized polysaccharide material made by impregnating or coating a water-soluble or water-dispersible material obtained by oxidation treatment of a polysaccharide material in the presence of an N-oxyl compound in water, into or onto a material.
