The invention relates to the non-therapeutic cosmetic use of an extract of agave for improving hair growth and/or the appearance of the hair and/or of the scalp. The invention also relates to a cosmetic or dermatological composition which improves hair growth and/or the appearance of the hair and/or of the scalp, comprising extracts ofAgave tequilana and a cosmetically and/or dermatologically acceptable carrier, said composition comprising from 0.05% to 5% by weight of said extracts ofAgave tequilana relative to the total weight of the composition, and said extract of agave comprising fructooligosaccharides which have a degree of polymerization of less than or equal to 10 and/or inulins which have a degree of polymerization of from 10 to 60.
