PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bone anchoring device that makes use of an outer locking ring for compressing a head-receiving portion to lock a head, and is improved in handleability.SOLUTION: The bone anchoring device includes: a bone anchoring element 1 having a shank 2 for anchoring in the bone and a head 3； a receiving part 5 for coupling a rod 6 to the bone anchoring element. The receiving part 5 includes a rod-receiving portion 9 with a first end 9a and a second end 9b and a U-shaped recess 12. The recess 12 extends from the first end 9a in the direction of the second end 9b, thereby forming two free legs. The receiving part 5 further includes a head-receiving portion 17, provided at the side of the second end 9b opposite to the first end 9a, for accommodating the head 3. The head-receiving portion has a free end 17b and being flexible so as to allow introduction and clamping of the head 3.
