Disclosed are a driver state monitoring method and an apparatus. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the driver state monitoring apparatus comprises: a driver state sensing unit to sense a driver state； a vehicle state sensing unit to sense a vehicle state； a warning unit to warn a driver of a driver carelessness state； and a controller to calculate a driver carelessness level based on the driver state sensed through the driver state sensing unit and the vehicle state sensed through the vehicle state sensing unit, determine whether the driver is in a carelessness state or a normal state based on the calculated driver carelessness level, and warn the driver through the warning unit if the driver is in the carelessness state.운전자 상태 모니터링 방법 및 장치가 개시된다. 본 발명의 일실시예에 따른 운전자 상태 모니터링 장치는 운전자 상태를 운전자상태감지부와, 차량 상태를 감지하는 차량상태감지부와, 운전자의 부주의 상태를 경고하는 경고부 및 상기 운전자상태감지부를 통해 감지된 운전자 상태와 상기 차량상태감지부를 통해 감지된 차량상태에 따라 운전자의 부주의 레벨을 산출하고, 산출된 운전자 부주의 레벨을 근거로 하여 운전자가 부주의 상태인지 정상 상태인지를 판단하고, 부주의 상태이면 경고부를 통해 경고하는 제어부를 포함한다.
