594752 A device (10) for receiving and confining an animal, such as a bail, is disclosed. The device (10) comprises a pen (12) having at least two elongate walls (21, 22) spaced apart to define a space into which the animal is received. An entry gate assembly (24) is located at a first end of the pen and is movable between an open position, which permits entry of the animal into the pen, and a closed position. An exit gate assembly (26) is located at a second end of the pen (12) and movable between an open position, which permits the release of the animal from the pen, and a closed. At least one of the entry gate assembly (24) and the exit gate assembly (26) includes a pair of door members each having a substantially vertically extending planar surface. Each door member is rotatably mounted around a pivot point out of the plane of the door member to the pen at the first and/or second end of the pen such that when the gate assembly (24, 26) is moved to the closed position the door members rotate such that their planar surfaces abut to extend substantially across the first and or second end of the pen. When the gate assembly is moved to the open position the door members rotate so that their planar surfaces are located adjacent a respective elongate wall of the pen. The operation of the gate may be computer controlled.
