The window can include afirsttransmissivity-reducing layer and a second transmissivity-reducing layercoupled to thefirst transmissivity-reducing layer, and at least a portion of the growthchamber isviewable through the window when the window is in the substantiallytransparent state.The planter apparatus includes a transmissivity controller for operating thewindowbetween the substantially opaque state and the substantially transparentstate. Forexample, the first transmissivity-reducing layer can include a switching filmand thesecond transmissivity-reducing layer can include a gel filter.
