The catheter has a main part and a soft tip. The main part is made from a long pipe. Soft chips have more soft bending characteristics than long tubes. Soft chips are attached to the ends of long tubes. Reinforcement is discontinuously embedded in the body of a long pipe in order to impart resistance to torsion, resistance to shear stress, increased column strength, and increased torque capability to the catheter. With this soft tip that is bent, the catheter is diverted as it strikes an obstacle in the patients body, preventing the catheter from injuring the patient. A catheter with a soft tip as another example is a long integral type catheter, and a notch is selectively provided at the end portion thereof. The reinforcing member may be embedded along the longitudinal direction of the integral type catheter or only along the main body part. The notch at the end may be a helical notch or a plurality of ring-shaped notches.
